Bertrand Ayers Trompeter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bertrand Ayers Trompeter, born July 19, 1928, his time ran out, with his love of clocks, he made every minute count, not wasting a minute. Although he was always in a hurry, he thankfully was not in a hurry in the end. Bert met the love of his life at Lakeside Swim Club when he was 10 (Barb was 6). He finally asked her out when he returned from the Korean War. Together, they had 5 girls, their greatest joy. He amused his children and grandchildren perfecting his clown like skills off a diving board. These skills were learned by many days at Turners. Bert was a runner for over 27 years and never missed a day. He loved tennis, but relied on Barbara to cover the court for him. He also enjoyed golf with Barb and collecting those dollars on the “poley” putts. He loved being the $2 man, giving out $2 bills for every smile he saw. He loved his Liars group lunch, on Thursdays, Male HS friends on Tuesdays and his well-known Friday night dinners with friends at Lou Boat Club. He proudly graduated from Louisville Male HS and Wittenberg University where he was a member of FIJI fraternity. He was drafted into the US Army, served in Korea, and honorably discharged as 2nd Lieutenant. Bert began his true management training at John F. Trompeter Co. on his return from the Korean War. Bert extended his leadership skills and was honored to serve the tobacco and candy industry as a board member of AWMA, KTCA and STCA and NATD where he held many offices. He was inducted into the AWMA Hall of Fame and honored with the Citizenship Awards at state and national levels. Bert served proudly as a board member of Stock Yards Bank and Trust Company. He was on the Board of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the St. Matthews Rotary Club. He was an active 60 year plus member of St. Leonard Parish and a 41 year member of Louisville Serra Club. As a youth, he belonged to the Castlewood Athletic Club. He was inducted into the Male HS Hall of Fame. He also was a recipient of the Wittenberg Outstanding Alumni Award. Bert was predeceased by his parents, John and Kathryn Trompeter and his brother, J. Farrell Trompeter. Bert was spoiled by 6 women in his life who survive him: his wife of 67 years, Barbara Duerr Trompeter, daughters, Ann, Kathy (Robbie Ballard), Jennie Heintzman (David), Patti Nash (Dave), Barbie (Jackson, WY), 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, June 25, 3-7 PM at Louisville Boat Club, 4200 River Rd.
