Dr. Elmer B. Schoenbachler

Dr. Elmer B. Schoenbachler, 90, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. Elmer attended Fern Creek High School, was an Air Force veteran, and a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Julia; and siblings, Mary Jo, Charles, Caroline, Aloysius, Corine, and William. Elmer is survived by his beloved wife, Nickie (nee Kathryn Jane Greene); children, Lynn Smith, Nancy Brooks (Michael), Sarah Conti (Chris), Ben Schoenbachler (Amy), and Karen Schoenbachler(Ted Coe); grandchildren, Hannah, Grant, and Claire Smith, Kathryn, Margaret, and Allison Brooks, Tate Conti, and Peter, Woody, and Michael Schoenbachler; sisters, Martha Whitworth and Alice McCall; sisters-in-law, Bette Zeller and JoAnn Greene; and being a devout Catholic, more nieces and nephews “than you can shake a stick at" whom he loved and by whom he was loved. He was a devoted family physician in Jeffersontown and spent his spare time building a family retreat on the river in Westport, which was a source of enjoyment for his many loved ones. He will be greatly missed. Visitation for Doc will be from 2-8 PM on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Monday, February 21 at St. Raphael the Archangel, 2141 Lancashire Avenue. Condolences may be shared at Ratterman.com.
