Jacob Daniel “Jack” Ernst, 95, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Westminster Presbyterian Home surrounded by his family. Born August 27, 1925, son of Edward G. and Clara Appel Ernst, he was the retired partner of Ernst Farriers. Jack was the Official Farrier of the Kentucky State Fair World Champion Horse Show for 38 years and a member of International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Appling APA 58 in the South Pacific. He was a 1943 St. Xavier High School graduate and attended the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science where he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and maintained his license for 50 plus years. Jack also was a Kentucky Colonel, member of Assumption Church Council KC #4473, Highland Post 201 American Legion – VFW Post 1170, St. Ann’s Confraternity, and St. Michael Catholic Church. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Jarboe Ernst; and brother, George “Forest” Ernst. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dorothy Moran Ernst; daughter, Kathleen Anderson (Chester); grandson, Tyler Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, January 3, 2021, 2 to 6 pm, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 10600 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown, KY. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021, 10 am, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Mass of the Air.
