Jerome "Jerry" Bruce Rash Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jerome “Jerry” Bruce Rash was born July 22, 1944. He was raised in Louisville, KY to Gladys and Edgar Rash with his seven siblings. He met his wonderful wife of 60 years, Betty, at the age of 16 working at the United Artist Theater. They were married on his seventeenth birthday, and were inseparable thereafter. Jerry and Betty traveled across the country while serving in the United States Air Force for four years, and he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. They welcomed their first child, Jerome Brian in 1968, their first daughter, Tina Louise, in 1970 and their second daughter, Jennifer Ann, in 1975. Jerry worked for CSX transportation as a locomotive engineer for over 30 years. After retirement he worked as a teaching assistant at Hawthorne Elementary for several years. He was a frequent volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and traveled on multiple occasions for hurricane relief efforts with the American Red Cross. He was a member of the American Legion, Highland post. Besides his love for his family, Jerry loved participating in Taekwondo (second dan black belt) as well as teaching classes. He was an avid bicyclist for many years, loved to travel, hike, and take walks on the beach. Jerry’s favorite home away from home was New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he took his family every year. You could always find him sitting on the balcony, reading a book and dolphin watching. Jerry had the gift of gab. He was great friends with everyone he met, forming lasting friendships with neighbors, coworkers, fellow parishioners, his car salesman, bank tellers and his CPA, as well as many others. He touched many lives in his 77 years on our earth. On Saturday April 2, 2022 at 8:53 A.M. Jerry took his last breath and went home to Jesus while surrounded by his loving family and being held by his wife. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Betty; his three children, Brian (Sharon), Tina (Shawn) and Jenny (James); six grandchildren, Brittainy (Cody), Marina, Beth, Christian, Dylan and Madi; three great-grand children, Aiden, Charlotte and Aelin; his sister Jacque; brothers, Joe (Nancy), and Butch (Yvonda). Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. A funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2141 Lancashire Ave. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Immediately following the burial family and friends are invited to a repast at Revolution Church, 10100 Bluegrass Parkway. Jerry wanted his life to be joyously celebrated, please wear a bright and cheerful outfit to celebrate his reunion with Jesus. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Down Syndrome of Louisville.
