John R. Bohn Jr.

August 26, 1934 - December 16, 2020

John R. Bohn, Jr., 83, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was a retired CPA, a member of the President’s Society at Bellarmine University. John and Marlene are founding members of the St. Francis Xavier Society at St. Xavier High School. John was also a member of the Flaget Alumni Association, the Parrish House, Oxmoor Country Club and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. John served in the accounting profession for 40 years before retiring from the regional CPA firm of Potter & Company in 1999. He served the profession as a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Kentucky Society of CPAs where he served as chairman of several committees. John’s greatest joy was helping others and giving back to the community; having served as a member of the Board of Overseers and the Alumni Board at Bellarmine University; the Board of Directors, Finance Committee and Audit Committee at St. X. John and Marlene also served together on the $28 Million Project X Campaign Cabinet at St. Xavier High School. He served on the Board of Directors at the House of Ruth, the Finance Committee at St. Frances of Rome Church, the Parish Council at St. Barnabas Church, the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Miss Kentucky Foundation, the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant and the Louisville Jaycees. Bellarmine presented John with the Accounting Alumnus of the Year award and the Coveted Scarlet and Silver Society award in 1995. He was also the only member of the Louisville Jaycees to be voted Jaycee of the Year two years in a row. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Bohn, Sr. and Elizabeth Senn Bohn. John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marlene Valla Bohn; children, Bruce Bohn (Donna), Michelle Bickel, Steve Bohn, Tim Holsclaw and Brett Holsclaw; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sisters Martha Simbeck (Harley), Elizabeth Conner and Judy Burdoine (Mike), and his assistant of 34 years, Roxie Glidewell, his business partners and many friends. A Private Funeral Mass for immediate family will be held. Private entombment will take place at Cave Hill.
