Joshua David Hein

July 12, 1984 - January 16, 2022

JOSHUA D. HEIN, age 37, of Union, Kentucky, passed from this world on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Joshua was born in Atlanta, GA to David and Karla Raab Hein, on July 12, 1984. He attended Oldham County High School and had a profound impact on the choral and drama programs, performing with the Madrigal Choir and All-State Choirs. He performed in musicals such as Damn Yankees, Oklahoma!, and held the leading role in Pippin. Joshua went on to get his Bachelor’s degree in music education and Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville. He was “all but dissertation” in completing his Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University. During his time at the University of Louisville, Joshua sang first tenor for the world-renowned Cardinal Singers. During his tenure with the group, he traveled the world and sang in festivals and competitions with some of his best friends in countries including Germany, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Japan, and Cuba. Joshua served as the choral director and music teacher for Larry A. Ryle High School in Boone County, KY for the last ten years, dedicating his time to rehearsing several choirs, as well as teaching humanities and music appreciation classes. As a teacher, choral director, and coach, Joshua set to work daily to impact the lives of his students and fellow staff members. Joshua is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William K. Hein; and maternal grandfather, James Raab. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Timothy and Barrett Hein; parents, David and Karla Hein; brother, Jacob Hein (Kelly); brother, Isaiah Hein; and paternal grandmother, Ruth K. Hein. A memorial Christian funeral service will be at 11 AM, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home; 3800 Bardstown Road in Louisville. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 PM, Friday, and 10-11 AM on Saturday, prior to funeral services. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be set up for a Ryle High School Senior to attend the University of Louisville on a music scholarship.
