Margaret Elaine Adams Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

MARGARET ELAINE ADAMS, 75, of Louisville passed on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 surrounded by her family at Baptist Health Hospital. Born in Cynthiana, KY she was the former Elaine Miller. Elaine was a retired lifelong School Teacher. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Anna Miller. Elaine was a graduate of Deming High School in Mt. Olivet, Kentucky. After several other jobs, she decided to join her husband, a high school principal, in the teaching profession. At the age of 34 with a newborn child and another in 8 th grade, she took her first college class. Four years later she graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and began her teaching career. Shortly after, she earned a Master’s Degree from Indiana State University. Elaine spent her whole career as a teacher in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Evansville, including her final 27 years as a first grade teacher at St. Benedict Cathedral School. She was widely known as a caring, compassionate teacher who was an early champion of students with learning differences. During her teaching career she was awarded the Catholic Charities Mother Teresa Service Award for her “willingness to reach out to the least of our brothers and sisters.” In 2008 she was named the Diocese of Evansville Teacher of the Year. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years Gerry Adams; her daughters Beth Laquinta (Phil) and Frances Ashbrook (Lee); grandchildren Margaret, Emily, Anna, Will, Mary, and Clare; and her great-grandchildren Eleanor, James, Elizabeth, and Julia. Visitation will be on Monday, July 18, from 5-7:30 at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Rd , Jeffersontown KY and the following Tuesday from noon until 1 pm at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Rd. in Louisville, KY. Her funeral Mass will immediately follow the visitation at 1 pm with Fr. Joe Graffis and Deacon Mark McDonald presiding. Burial will be 1 pm Wednesday, July 20 at Kentontown Cemetery in Mt. Olivet, KY.
