Marion V (Schlaug) Watson Marion was born Dec 2,1926 to Louise DeLagneau Schlaug and Peter Paul Schlaug. She graduated from Shawnee High School. She met her husband Hardy at Fountain Ferry Skating Rink and married January 11, 1947. Marion is survived by her 2 daughters, Sharon Rexroat (late Ron) and Debbie Jolliff (Rob); 3 Grandsons, Brad Jolliff, Brent Rexroat (Tanya), and Greg Jolliff (Hannah); 6 Great Granddaughters, Skyler Rexroat, Summer Rexroat, Sawyer Rexroat, Abigail Jolliff, Makena Jolliff and Addyson Jolliff; Sister-in-law Barbara Kaiser (late Buddy); and a niece, Pat Whitler (Charlie). She is preceded in death by her husband, Hardy B. Watson, Jr., and her sister Ruth Tisheuar (late James). Marion became interested in the Auxiliary when she joined the Shawnee Drum and Bugle Corp in 1941, and six years later joined Auxiliary #3204, on the eligibility of her late husband Hardy who served in US Navy Seabees in the Pacific during World War II. The Drum and Bugle Corp in which she participated was a National Winner. She is now a member of Middletown Auxiliary #1170. As the 1981-82 National President she rallied the members behind her theme “United We Stand for America”, resulting in contributions topping the $2 million mark for the Cancer Aid and Research Fund for the first time in Auxiliary history. As National Buddy Poppy Director in 1972-73 she led the Auxiliary fundraising efforts for disabled needy Veterans and their dependents. In 1976-77 as National Community Activities Director she initiated the National Distinguished Service Award for Extraordinary Community Service. Other positions she has held on the National level include: Color Bearer, Flag Bearer, Legislative Director, National District Council Member and National Chairman for the Southern Conference on the Publicity and Community Activities Programs. Marion also served as Southern Conference President in 1979-80. She has served the organization in other capacities including Department President when she was named Outstanding President of the year in 1964. She held several offices and chairmanships in her Auxiliary before serving as President in 1952-53. Marion served as Auxiliary Treasurer for twenty-six years along with Community Activities and Hospital Chairman for about seventeen years and twelve years as District Secretary. She has loved the VFW Auxiliary Sisters and Brothers for 78 years. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, June 16, and 2:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 17, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Rd. Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 18, in the chapel at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Marion Watson Nurses Scholarship Fund or the VFW National Home for Children.
