Mary Lou Shaw
March 6, 1930 - January 16, 2022
SHAW, MARY LUCILLE (Mary Lou), 91, of Louisville, passed away on January 16, 2022, after a brief illness. Mary Lou, or “Lulu” to her siblings, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who selflessly dedicated her life to family. After raising six children, she began her second career as the school secretary at St. Francis of Assisi School, working there for 31 years and retiring at 81 years of age. In addition to her administrative duties, she acted as “grandmother in residence,” dispensing smiles and hugs to students, and occasionally mending knees and drying tears from playground scrapes. Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Allgeier) Beyerle. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 59 years, K. H. Shaw III; her son, David Anthony, her daughter, Kay Ann; her brothers Robert “Bud,” Garland, Elmer, Norman and John; her sisters Edna Dolt, Jane Gdaniec, Elizabeth “Betsy” Nickens and Doris Fitzgerald. Remaining to cherish her memory are her children Dennis Shaw (Luanne), Susan Sparrow (Jay), Robert Shaw (Debbie), Andrea Mills (Kevin), Knowles "Buddy" Shaw IV (Becky), and John Shaw (Melissa); sisters Helen “Hetsy” Beyerle and Martha Minogue (Pat); 18 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, January 20, at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 21, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Road. Private Burial will take place following cremation. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Francis of Assisi School, 1938 Alfresco Place, Louisville, KY 40205, for tuition assistance. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Baptist Health Hospital, especially the staff of the Palliative Care Center, as well as the staff of Hosparus, who were so compassionate and caring to both Mary Lou and her family during her final week.
