Michael Raymond Starcher
March 2, 1949 - March 26, 2022
MICHAEL RAYMOND STARCHER 73, passed on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Baptist Health Hospital. Michael is preceded in death by his father Charles, his mother Gertrude (Trudie), brothers Charles Jr., William, and Anthony. He also lost his first wife and love of his life, Connie, due to a sudden stroke at the age of 46. He is survived by the second love of his life, his wonderful wife Ruth; his three outstanding sons, Michael Anthony, Charles Warner and Joseph Andrew from his first marriage. He is also survived by the best grandchildren ever, Laura and Lucas. Michael was born in 1949 in Spencer, West Virginia where he spent a lot of time fishing, hunting and hiking in the nearby hills and hollows. After High school, Michael moved to Louisville in 1967 to attend United Electronics Institute where he graduated with an Associates degree in electronics technology. Shortly after graduating, he started a civil service career with the City of Louisville as an electronics communications technician where, after 34 years, he retired. During that time, he also worked for several companies such as Heathkit, E.M.I. and Motivator Fitness where he was awarded two patents. In 2015, Michael was diagnosed with kidney failure and spent the last years of his life receiving dialysis while managing other medical conditions. During that time and up to the end, Ruth was always at his side, taking care of all his needs. Michael always loved animals from his pet raccoon to his pigeons that would fly around and land on his shoulders. He is survived by his dog he adored, Beau. Michael's lifelong passion was radio and electronics. He said that when he was a kid, he would dream about having a laboratory in the basement where meals where slid under the door while he continued to work all day. He would also have a library upstairs where he would sit, read technical books and smoke a pipe while wearing a smoking jacket. He never got the jacket, but he had a big shop in his basement that you could call a laboratory where he designed and built many devices over his lifetime. Let us all hope that wherever Michael is now, he is continuing to enjoy that passion… Michael will have a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 2-5 pm at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home Jeffersontown 10600 Taylorsville Rd. Donations may be made in his name to the Louisville Humane Society.
