Nicholas "Nick" B. Murphy Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nicholas “Nick” B. Murphy, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on October 24, 2021. Nick was born to the late Clarence and Helen Murphy on February 8, 1933. He attended Holy Cross Elementary School and was an alumni of St. Xavier High School. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 following the Korean War. Nick started his career as a bricklayer’s apprentice for Carl Yantz Company. Later, he formed his own company, Nick Murphy Masonry, from which he retired after nearly 50 years. A talented stone mason, his attractive brick and stone work can be viewed all over the city of Louisville and surrounding areas, including many historical and prominent sites. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a former member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. In retirement, he enjoyed his weekly pizza lunch with “the boys” and he was a member of Baptist Milestone where he enjoyed many friendships. Nick was admired and loved by all who knew him for his kind heart, quick sense of humor, and devotion to family and friends. He is survived by six children, Denise (Bill) Sullivan, Kathleen “Kathy” Adams, Sharon (Pat) Weis, Daniel “Danny” (Beth) Murphy, Mark (Shaylee) Murphy, Keith (Hollie) Murphy; a brother, Eugene “Gene” Murphy; a dear friend, Wanda Thomas; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Nick was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Rita Jane Murphy (Whelan) and siblings, Clarence “J.R.” Murphy Jr., Mary Patricia “Pat” Clements, James Donald “Don” Murphy, Carole Ann Greene; and cousin Mary “Jane” Kennedy O’Neill. His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to ElderCare 4 Families, caregiver Regina Scott, and Hosparus for the compassionate care provided to him in recent months. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 1st, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m., Sunday, October 31st, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boys and Girls Haven of Louisville, KY.
