Roger Ellis Goodin Sr.

July 17, 1941 - April 1, 2020

Roger Ellis Goodin Sr., 78, of Louisville passed away early Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at his home. Roger was born in Louisville, July 17, 1941, and a truck driver by trade. He called himself “a sailor on the concrete sea.” Roger drove for Mason Dixon and other carriers. His many talents included carpentry, chef, and one who could build and fix anything. Roger was such a loving father to his ten children. He was so proud of his family ancestry, his membership in the Sons of the American Revolution and theFirst Families of Kentucky. As a former member of the Derby City Mustang Club, he served as road captain and “September in the Park” car show co-chair. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He faithfully attended St. Michael Catholic Church with his wife Donna. Roger enjoyed attending monthly luncheons with his Butler High School classmates. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Goodin and Louise Gray Goodin Keller, step-father,Lannis P. Keller, granddaughter, April Rubesh, and son-in-law, Tom Arnold. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years Donna Sermersheim Smith Goodin; children, DiAnna Gaeta, Roger Goodin Jr (Cyndie), DeWonda Mills (Skip), Tina Todd, Julie Valentin, Sherry LeVasseur, Mike Moore (Cheryl), Laura Arnold, Leah Lowery, and David M. Smith (Sharon); and his sister Patricia Settle (James). Also left to cherish his memory are 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The family will welcome friends and extended family for a Memorial Service, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, on Sunday, May 30, 2021. Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 PM with the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. We look forward to sharing time with you.
