Wayne Mattingly
June 30, 1955 - January 20, 2022
Wayne Mattingly, 66, of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Wayne was a loving husband to his wife Debbie for more than 43 years and a proud Father of Christa. The eldest son of Tom and Barb Mattingly, Wayne was a calm and steady support for his three sisters and two brothers and an honorary son and brother to his Elliott family who he joined through marriage. Wayne was happy to be surrounded by and be a part of both families. An avid thoroughbred racing enthusiast, he loved to analyze, wager and watch the ponies run and even ventured into syndicate ownership of a namesake horse, Wayne-O. He graduated from the University of Louisville and worked professionally for nearly 40 years in chemical manufacturing. His favorite part of work was meeting his co-workers and close friends for a glass of Woodford on the rocks after a long week and sometimes in the middle of the week too. Wayne was a friend to all who knew him and enjoyed “Elder Statesman,”status among his golfing buddies, the “Duffers,” who all knew his “banana slice” off the tee was as reliable, consistent and unique as Wayne himself. He will be sorely missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Von Thomas and Barbara Jean Mattingly; and father-in-law, John F. Elliott, Sr. He leaves behind his wife Debbie Mattingly; daughter, Christa Mattingly (Claire Yates); siblings, Julia Kannapel, Teresa Irwin (John), Sharon Mattingly, Stephen Mattingly (LaVon), and David Mattingly (Margaret); mother-in-law, Patricia B. Elliott; sisters-in-law, Sarah Jane Nagel (Ron) and Linda Willis (James); brothers-in-law, John F. Elliott, Jr. (Georgie) and James Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews all whom will never forget him, carrying his memory forward until they meet again. Visitation for Wayne will be from 2-8 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road in Louisville. Funeral service will be at 12 PM on Monday, January 24 at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the family asks, if you are able, to consider donating blood in Wayne’s memory to help replace the many units he received over the past few weeks. Condolences may be shared at Ratterman.com
